The Kerry Irish Pub was born in October, 1993. I use the word "born" because the word "established" does not even come close to telling the tale. The idea for "The Kerry" was conceived in the back bar of another Irish pub, the old "Ryan’s Irish Pub" once located on Bourbon Street. After a long and difficult labour "the Kerry Irish Pub" was finally born.

Kay Harris, one of the proud, but weary parents had a love and enthusiasm for Irish and country music I found beyond compare. "The Kerry" started out as another venue for live Irish music but evolved into an outlet for all types of acoustic music in New Orleans. The sounds of Irish, country, folk, rock, bluegrass, roots rock, and more are part of the heart and soul that is "the Kerry Irish pub". The success of the Kerry Irish pub is a true musical testament to Kay’s drive and determination for "the Kerry" to succeed. If a live music club can have a mission statement, "the Kerry’s" is that it has always offered a stage and haven for talented local musicians, as well as those just passing through town.

Located on Decatur Street, the Kerry Irish pub is known as one of the few truly neighborhood bars in the French quarter. On any given night you'll find friendly regulars sitting at the bar, as well as new "old friends" who happily stumbled upon it. The Kerry Irish pub not only boasts the best pint of Guinness in the French quarter, but also serves up an exciting, eclectic assortment of musical talent seven nights a week.

Kay Harris, originally from Wild Rose, Wisconsin, died of cancer in July, 2001. Kay's legacy, and the legacy of "The Kerry Irish pub" are the people that have been brought together through both great music, and a great pint of Guinness. As one of Kay’s best friends I’m very proud and honoured to be "the Kerry’s" present caretaker. A placed not owned by one, but felt to be owned by all of the Kerry staff, regulars, and some local musicians - both past and present - who have passed within its walls.

So if you're just passing through New Orleans, please come on by and have a pint while listening to some great music with a few new "old friends".

Slainte,

Doris Wagner-Bastiansen

Authentic right down to the Irish bartender. This place is the very ideal of a good bar. A good mix of locals and out-of-towners all having a good time talking, listening to music on the jukebox, watching the game, playing pool, and drinking great beer (for me Harp) out-of-the-tap.

Small Irish bar, features good live music.

Clientele: foot traffic mostly and french quarter locals.
