Beer Tank Convoy Finally Arrives at Brewery
" From the Hamilton port to the Molson Coors brewery near Pearson International Airport, this convoy move was supposed to take four nights. With extreme cold alerts, a snowstorm, and a large-scale underestimation of just how difficult it would be, it has taken 10 days.
The beer fermenters were ordered last spring from the Ziemann Group in Germany. The completed tanks were shipped across the Atlantic in November and arrived in Hamilton Port on Nov. 24.
On Thursday, Jan. 7, the convoy set off at a walking pace, expecting to reach the brewery by the following Tuesday morning. It was a route that had been mapped out months in advance and meticulously planned, since thousands of wires and hundreds of street lights had to be moved along the way.
“Everyone underestimated how long it would take,” says DeVries, who works for Cambridge, Ont.-based Challenger Motor Freight. “Nothing got damaged and nobody got hurt.”"
