Inaugural Bacon & Beer Festival, Boston, A Delicious Success
Bacon chips, bacon popcorn, bacon pretzels, bacon scones, bacon sandwiches, bacon-stuffed buns, bacon cupcakes, bacon brownies, bacon milkshakes, chocolate-covered bacon - the Boston Bacon & Beer Festival, held on Saturday at the historic Power Station building in the South End, felt a bit like a scene out of Forrest Gump, but for those who love pork more than shrimp. Dozens of restaurants and breweries were on hand to celebrate two of our favorite food groups - bacon and beer.
Considering how bacon can sit in your stomach, none of the offered dishes were heavy or overly greasy. We loved the bacon-chocolate milkshakes from b.good (with, you guessed it, whole pieces of bacon ground right into the ice cream) and the bacon Chex mix from the soon-to-open Gallows in the South End. Atwood's Tavern served up the best hangover cure ever with maple-glazed breakfast buns, stuffed with scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheese. We're betting that some of the people hitting the beer tables should have taken these home for later.
