New alcohol law passed for the City of Medford
The City of Medford, Oregon has a new law on the books, restaurants can now serve beer outside.
By simply allowing patrons to take drinks outside, the owner of 4 Daughter Irish Pub in Medford says it could have a huge impact on business, something he took before the city council and won.
Dustin Myers is the manager of 4 Daughters Irish Pub in Medford. He says during the summer months, their numbers go down. Myers says it's because you can't take a beer, or any alcoholic beverage out side.
Thursday the Medford City Council approved the ordinance that changes all of that.
"It gives them a chance, to invite a little business out into the sidewalks, it makes the downtown look a little more active, and a little more vital," explained Mayor of Medford Gary Wheeler.
The Medford Police Department wants to stress this is not the same thing as drinking in public, you can not walk down the streets of downtown with a beer in your hand, this simply applies to seating right outside of a licensed restaurant.
