St. Patrick’s Day in OKC

There’s more to do in Oklahoma City on St. Patrick’s Day than just wear green and go around pinching those who don’t, although some people certainly enjoy the pinching! If you’re in OKC the week of March 13th through 17th, you’ll find a number of different events going on related to St. Patrick’s Day. Here are just a few of them.

On Saturday, March 13th, the annual downtown St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place. It begins at 1 p.m. at the corner of Broadway and 5th, and it will continue east down to Sheridan. Come and join many local Oklahomans in lining the streets to watch around 100 different floats, antique cars, dancers, bands, and more. Head down to Bricktown before the parade for a nice lunch at any of the great restaurants, or visit one after the parade for an afternoon treat (I recommend the Melting Pot for some great chocolate fondue).

Another outdoor activity is the annual St. Patrick’s Day Block Party. While no date has been announced yet for the event, it’s sure to happen—it’s a yearly tradition that is always enjoyable. It usually starts around 10 in the morning, and those who get up early can have some green eggs and ham for breakfast. Events go on until midnight that night and include live music, Irish dancing, and green beer. There are activities for the kids, too. Admission is free.

Naturally, many local bars and pubs will be hosting their own events. O’Connell’s, one of the few authentic Irish pubs in Oklahoma, will be serving green eggs and ham and have live entertainment. Other pubs may not be Irish, but they will still have plenty of Irish spirit flowing from the taps. A few of the more popular ones include the Bricktown Brewery, McNellie’s, Henry Hudson’s, and TapWerks.
