Visit Denver’s beer fest to return

Raise your glasses: Visit Denver will put on Denver Beer Fest for a second year in September.

The week-long celebration of all things beer was a new event for the convention and visitors bureau last year, an effort to drum up business around the annual Oktoberfest and Great American Beer Festival events. It involved metro-area bars, restaurants and breweries hosting more than 150 beer tastings, beer-dinner pairings and other events revolving around the beverage that has become synonymous with the state.

On Tuesday, Visit Denver announced that it would sponsor what it dubbed as the “second annual Denver Beer Fest” from Sept. 10-19 this year. Though no specific events have been announced as of yet, the fest will include the Great American Beer Festival (Sept. 16-18) and the first weekend of Oktoberfest (Sept. 17-19).

“Visit Denver started Denver Restaurant Week six years ago to increase awareness of Denver’s fine dining. In that time, we’ve seen Restaurant Week grow from 84 restaurants to 282 this year,” Visit Denver President/CEO Richard Scharf said in a news release. “We started Denver Beer Fest last year with the same goal and we expect that this event will increase Denver’s reputation as a beer brewing center, both locally and nationally.”

Event information will be available later at www.denverbeerfest.com.

Human Movement LLC, a Colorado-based event and production company, said in March it had bought Oktoberfest Denver from Larimer Associates and will stage it from now on. This year’s two-weekend event is set for Sept. 17-19 and Sept. 24-26 at a site to be determined, probably in the Ballpark neighborhood.
